Teacher Certification Coach (Grant)
Position Overview
The Teacher Certification Coach provides direct instructional support to help teacher candidates prepare for and pass the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE). This position delivers targeted advising, workshops, and diagnostic assessments aligned with FTCE competencies, while collaborating with faculty and program leadership to strengthen content knowledge, test-taking skills, and overall certification readiness. The Coach uses performance data to guide interventions and contributes to continuous improvement efforts that enhance candidate success. This is a temporary grant funded position through September 30, 2026 contingent upon grantor funding and grant extensions. This grant position will be eligible for participation in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) after 6 consecutive months of continuous employment.
What you will be doing
- Provides individual and small-group advising sessions focused on Florida Teacher Certification examinations (FTCE) competencies, skills, and test-taking strategies
- Designs and facilitates FTCE preparation workshops, review sessions, boot camps, and online modules
- Uses diagnostic assessments to identify student strengths and gaps and to develop individualized learning plans
- Reviews candidate diagnostic results, practice tests, and previous FTCE attempts to create targeted advising plans
- Tracks FTCE performance trends across programs and reports findings to program leadership
- Identifies areas where instructional support or curriculum alignment may be needed
- Collaborates with the Director of Clinical Teaching to align Mini-Teach lessons, Cycles of Assistance, and fieldwork expectations with FTCE competencies
- Works with faculty to embed FTCE skills into coursework and assignments
- Provides faculty with feedback on student needs and performance patterns
- Develops and updates FTCE-aligned study materials, practice assessments, videos, and support guides
- Curates high-quality external resources for candidate use
- Ensures all materials meet Florida Department of Education (FDOE) test specifications and reflect current exam updates
- Maintains ongoing communication with candidates preparing for FTCE exams and monitors their progress
- Provides timely interventions for students at risk of delayed progression due to certification requirements
- Coordinates with advising and faculty to ensure students have clear preparation plans
- Participates in student orientations and information sessions to explain FTCE requirements and preparation pathways
- Promotes FTCE resources and support services across programs and cohorts
- Ensures candidates understand test registration, deadlines, and certification policies
- Maintains accurate documentation of advising activities, participation, and candidate progress
- Supports reporting for accreditation, FDOE requirements, and institutional continuous improvement processes
- Ensures confidentiality and compliance with institutional and state guidelines
- Performs other duties as assigned
What you need to succeed
- Master’s degree in Education and two (2) years of classroom P-12 teaching experience and mentoring teachers
- Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of the 2010 Florida Educator Accomplished Practices
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge with the teaching-learning cycle
- Working knowledge in mentoring pre-service teachers
- Practical expertise utilizing clinical supervision models
- Possess a high level of effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include evening and weekend assignments
- Ability to travel to multiple campuses
- Ability to work well with students, faculty, and staff
