Join a dynamic, international initiative at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) on climate adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in the Pacific. AUT is seeking a Research Coordinator for this five-year research/institutional development initiative with expertise in coordinating and reporting on USAID-funded humanitarian assistance projects.

CARP aims to foster a new generation of researchers to address the impacts and implications of climate change for DRR policies and strategies. It is a collaborative, international, and multi-institutional partnership, that involves the University of Arizona, Stellenbosch University, the Consejo Superior Universitario Centroamericano, and AUT. AUT's engagement also involves operational partnerships with universities in the wider Pacific.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The research coordinator will facilitate AUT's engagement with these institutions. They will be responsible for organising regional consultative meetings as well as developing a project communication strategy. The role also involves developing proposal application guidelines, and the establishment and implementation of processes for proposal submission, review, awarding of grants, and monitoring of research progress. The appointee will provide technical and administrative support to grant recipients and partner institutions during the research process. They will also ensure that project activities are implemented according to the provisions of USAID-funded research grants and awards.

He kōrero mōu | About you

The successful applicant will have at least a master's degree and a minimum of five years of relevant work, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience that relates to the core development concerns in the Pacific (e.g., disaster risk management, humanitarian assistance, climate change adaptation, vulnerability and resilience, public health, or governance). They will have knowledge of the Asia/Pacific region and its climate adaptation and DRR challenges. The appointee will also have experience in supporting postgraduate students, as well as knowledge of the research process and key competencies required of applied researchers working on climate adaptation, DRR, and development topics. They will have had previous experience implementing USAID-funded research grants and awards, including budget monitoring and compliance.

The appointee will preferably be familiar with or have prior experience in establishing and building operational partnerships with organisations in Asia or the Pacific and engaging with a variety of stakeholders from the public sector, civil society, and/or local communities. 'Real-world' applied experience in project implementation in a disaster risk-related field, and/or experience with a disaster-related professional organisation / NGO or similar would be advantageous. Pacific language competency and Pacific community engagement is preferred.

Salary Range: $71,000 - $96,000 (dependent on experience and qualifications)
