Are you an organised, proactive administrator looking for a permanent, full-time role in a supportive and intellectually stimulating teaching environment?

The Department of Archaeology is seeking a dedicated Teaching Administrator to join our small but dynamic team of teaching and admissions professionals. This is an excellent opportunity to play a central role in the life of a busy teaching department, making a real difference to students and academic colleagues alike. The role offers variety, responsibility, and the chance to be involved in all stages of the teaching lifecycle.

About the role

As Teaching Administrator, you will be at the heart of the Department's teaching and assessment activity, ensuring the delivery of high-quality administrative support to a diverse community of academic and professional staff.

You will oversee the smooth running of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching administration, line-manage an Undergraduate Administrator, and work closely with colleagues across the Department. The role also offers the opportunity to support the organisation of an annual fieldtrip in the UK or Europe and to act as the first point of contact for the Department's MPhil students.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinating and overseeing undergraduate and postgraduate teaching administration
  • Line-managing the Undergraduate Administrator
  • Ensuring the Teaching Administration Office is appropriately staffed
  • Servicing the Teaching Committee and Director of Studies Committee
  • Organising the second-year Easter fieldtrip
  • Managing the smooth delivery of MPhil and Undergraduate assessments and examinations
  • Acting as the main point of contact for MPhil students
  • Maintaining accurate MPhil student records

About you

We are looking for someone who brings enthusiasm, professionalism, and a collaborative approach to their work, along with:

  • Experience in an administrative role, ideally within a university or similarly regulated environment
  • Strong organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail and time management
  • Confidence in communicating with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders, including producing a weekly student bulletin during term time
  • A positive, flexible team-player attitude, able to support colleagues in a busy department
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and confidence using databases, Moodle, and CamSIS
  • A discreet and professional approach, with a strong understanding of confidentiality
  • Educated to A level standard, NVQ level 4 or 5, or equivalent level of practical experience
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths, is essential
