Teaching Assistant (Department of Information Systems & Analytics)

Job Description

Department of Information Systems and Analytics is recruiting full-time Teaching Assistants for Semester 2 of Academic Year 2025/2026!

A Teaching Assistantship is an excellent starting point for a career in academic teaching. Teaching Assistants gain teaching experience during graduate studies, which is welcomed by future employers in academia and beyond. A limited number of positions are available for both current Teaching Assistants wishing re-appointment, and new appointments.

Some information about TA position:

  • Duties: conduct tutorial/laboratory/recitation sessions, assist the lecturer with grading and other course administration tasks, exam/test invigilation etc.
  • Able to teach and/or support at least 3-4 BT/IS-coded courses, with at least 1-2 foundational courses at levels 1000 and 2000. See here for a list of SoC courses.
  • The workload is expected to be around 16 hrs/week, of which up to 10 can be contact hours.
  • The starting date will be July 2026.

For PhD students, note that being appointed as a full-time TA means that you will have to convert your student status to be part-time.

Who may apply?

  • Senior PhD students who are doing well in research and who have good part-time teaching records may apply for new appointments.
  • PhD students should discuss with their supervisors before applying.
  • Undergraduate and Master’s students who plan to continue their studies at SoC as a PhD student with the Department, and have obtained a Honors (Highest Distinction) or Honors (Distinction) may also apply.
  • We accept any computing-related degree (e.g. Business Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, etc).
