Description
The Division of Integrative Systems and Design (ISD) at HKUST leads a diverse portfolio of undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional programs at the intersection of technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. ISD is home to the Entrepreneurship Minor (ENTR courses), the BSc in Innovation, Design and Technology (IDT) — Hong Kong's first experiential learning undergraduate programme — as well as the MPhil in Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship (TIE) and the MSc in Technology Leadership and Entrepreneurship (TLE).
To support teaching and programme delivery across this portfolio, ISD invites applications for a full-time Teaching Associate (TA) / Instructional Assistant position.
Courses and Programmes Supported
The appointee will support the delivery of ENTR courses under the ISD Entrepreneurship curriculum, spanning mindset, fundamentals, and skill-set electives that together form the Entrepreneurship Minor pathway.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching Support
- Assist course instructors in delivering tutorials, workshops, and experiential learning sessions across ENTR courses
- Guide and coach student teams through design thinking processes — including problem framing, user research, ideation, prototyping, and iteration
- Facilitate hands-on sessions on opportunity recognition, startup fundamentals, business model development, and entrepreneurial problem-solving
- Provide constructive feedback on student assignments, pitches, project submissions, and reflections
- Assist in developing and updating teaching materials, case studies, and assessment rubrics
- Handle course coordination tasks including scheduling, student liaison, and attendance
Enabling the ENTR Ecosystem
- Recruit, coordinate, and manage a network of student helpers to support the operational and creative needs of the ENTR programme
- Oversee student-led production of promotional and educational content, including videos, social media materials, and course promotion assets
- Nurture and develop student interest groups that organically generate community content — such as podcasts, interview series, opinion pieces, and short-form video — that showcases the ENTR learning experience
- Foster a vibrant community of active, engaged learners by creating touchpoints and platforms where students can share their entrepreneurial journeys, connect with peers, and inspire one another
- Support the organisation of programme events such as bootcamps, hackathons, pitch competitions, and community-building activities that extend the learning beyond the classroom
Terms and Conditions
- Duration: 2 years, renewable
- Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience
- Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided
- A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or above in entrepreneurship, business, innovation management, design, or a related field
- Strong understanding of entrepreneurship principles, startup development, or innovation methodologies,
- Real world business field experience will be a bonus.
- Demonstrated ability to apply and facilitate design thinking processes (empathise, define, ideate, prototype, test) in a structured learning environment
- Experience facilitating group-based, problem-solving activities with diverse student teams
- Effective communicator and coach who can help students translate ambiguous problems into clear opportunity statements and actionable solutions
- Ability to manage and motivate student helpers or volunteers, delegating tasks and sustaining engagement across creative and operational workstreams
- Proactive, collaborative mindset with genuine interest in student development and community building
Preferred / Bonus Qualifications
- Prior experience teaching, tutoring, or facilitating workshops in entrepreneurship, design thinking, or innovation-related subjects
- Startup or venture experience (e.g., founding a company, participating in incubation programmes, pitch competitions, or product commercialization)
- Familiarity with human-centred design methodologies, lean startup principles, or business model frameworks (e.g., Business Model Canvas, Value Proposition Design, SAVE, Blue Ocean Strategy)
- Experience in content creation, community management, or student engagement programmes — particularly involving video production, podcasting, or social media storytelling
- Track record of organising or co-organising student-facing events, activities, or clubs in a university or innovation ecosystem setting
- Passion for coaching student innovators and helping teams learn productively from both successes and failures
