The Division of Integrative Systems and Design at HKUST leads a diverse portfolio of teaching and research projects, exploring cutting-edge domains such as intelligent hardware, embedded AI, biomedical and health technologies, sustainable design, sports tech, and next-generation human-computer interaction. To support the TIE (Technology Innovation & Entrepreneurship) Programme, the division is inviting applicants for a full-time Teaching Associate (TA)/ Instructional Assistant role.
About the Role
The TA will be instrumental in enabling technical and entrepreneurial learning within a highly interdisciplinary, project-based environment. The ideal candidate will:
- Support course instructors and guide student teams tackling innovation challenges in domains like AI-driven healthcare, smart devices, robotics, sports tech, and sustainability.
- Support project tutorials and technical workshops covering software/hardware integration, and foundational methods in design thinking, product management, and user research.
- Facilitate and co-organize programme events, hackathons, and entrepreneurship activities that connect student innovators with mentors, industry resources, and startup networks.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree or above in electronics, industrial/product design, computer science, or a related field.
- Strong hands-on technical skills in one or more relevant areas (e.g., embedded systems, AI/ML algorithms, prototyping, electronic circuit design, full-stack development, CAD/modelling, or data analytics).
- Effective communicator who can guide project-based learning and foster collaboration among students.
- Proactive problem-solving attitude: able to help students translate conceptual ideas into practical solutions.
Preferred/Bonus Qualifications
- Prior experience with entrepreneurship (e.g. having participated in startup projects, product commercialization, or venture competitions)
- Passion for supporting young innovators and helping teams learn from both their failures and successes.

Candidates with less work experience may be considered for appointment as an Instructional Assistant. (Duration: 2 years, renewable)
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
