Teaching Professor of English (Open Rank)
The Department of Communication and Languages at Lander University invites applications for a full-time open rank non-tenure-track teaching professor of English to begin on August 10, 2026. Faculty rank is based upon credentials and experience, and all ranks have opportunities for promotion. Salary is competitive and based upon relevant experience.
While a Ph.D. in English with a focus on Composition and Rhetoric is strongly preferred, candidates with a master’s degree or ABD from a regionally accredited institution are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate must have two years of full-time experience teaching composition at the university level in a face-to-face format. Candidates with experience mentoring students and/or working in a university writing lab are preferred.
This position includes responsibilities in teaching and service, with a focus on teaching introductory courses in composition. The teaching load is 30 hrs. per year (5 courses per semester). Faculty members advise and mentor students and serve on university and departmental committees. Evidence of professional or scholarly productivity and the potential to involve students in research is welcomed. Lander supports on-going training and professional development through its Center for Faculty Excellence.
The candidate should be committed to teaching excellence, eager to engage in service and able to work collaboratively in a close-knit department, and work effectively with a diverse student population. Teaching will take place on the main campus. Summer teaching may be available and would merit additional compensation.
The Department offers majors in Communication and English and supports concentrations and minors, such as those in Creative Writing and Professional Writing. The University’s Writing Lab and Speaking Lab are coordinated by the department’s faculty who also support community-based learning, the Lander Writer Series, a student literary journal, and a student newspaper.
Application: Interested candidates should send a CV/resume; statement of teaching philosophy and experience; evidence of teaching effectiveness; unofficial transcripts; and the names and contact information of three references to:
