Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Technician II, Video Production writes, films, edits, and distributes videos that support instruction including lectures, faculty speakers, guest speakers, student projects and performances, demonstration and training videos for faculty and staff, and videos that promote programs at Lone Star College for posting on YouTube or other social media. These duties include preparing pre-production material such as scripts and outlines, meeting with clients to plan productions, ensuring proper lighting for planned productions, directing part-time workers that serve as crew on video projects, scheduling talent, ensuring Model Release forms are signed by guest speakers, editing videos to include music, text, and graphics packages when applicable, transcoding, editing and rendering footage shot by faculty and staff for job interviews, recording voiceovers for instructional, promotional, and informational videos, distributing videos via OneDrive, and maintaining video on social media. The position also includes assisting with setting up photography sessions and maintaining and checking out video equipment to faculty and staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Meet with clients, email correspondence with clients, scheduling and writing for video projects.
  2. Film video projects primarily focused on instruction.
  3. Assembling footage to include text, music, PowerPoint images and graphics packages where applicable.
  4. Outputting video for clients via OneDrive and uploading and maintaining college YouTube channel.
  5. Maintaining video equipment by ensuring it is working properly and checking out video equipment to faculty and staff.
  6. Recording voiceovers for instructional and promotional videos.
  7. Assisting with setup for photography sessions and setting up video equipment for faculty and staff when needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed, including some nights and weekends
  • Skills in video production (writing, producing, shooting, and editing)
  • Knowledge of and ability to use and learn computer applications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to determine the approach for doing the work
  • Ability and skill to follow specific procedures that may result in interaction with co-workers, citizens, or other individuals

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes,PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment; Any specialized equipment typical to assigned functional area
  • Internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree or higher and at least 1 year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Salary

Hiring salary range is $38,761 - $44,576
