Temporary Agroecology Lab Coordinator
Essential Job Duties:
The Agroecology Lab Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Agroecology Professor to support the establishment and growth of the Agroecology Lab, the undergraduate Agroecology Major, and the Agroecology Education Farm. The coordinator will assist in a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing the functionality and efficacy of the program while contributing to ongoing agroecological research and education projects. The coordinator will play a key role in developing and fostering relationships with farmers, private and public sector actors in the region to support collaborative research and community-based outreach efforts. The coordinator will collaborate with the Agroecology Education Farm manager and Sustainable Agriculture Systems Unit technician at the Lake Wheeler Field Lab to ensure smooth project execution and coordination across various activities. The coordinator will also assist in reviewing and summarizing relevant scientific literature, drafting reports and educational materials to enhance agroecology curriculum.
Responsibilities will likely include:
- Network with organizations in the public sector (e.g., non-profits, community-based entities) striving to improve access to food and education
- Create outreach and education materials, such as videos, social media posts, brochures for the Agroecology Major, the Agroecology Education Farm, and the Sustainable Agriculture Systems Unit at the Lake Wheeler Field Lab
- Assist with the implementation of long-term demonstration cropping systems at the Sustainable Agriculture Systems Unit
- Assist with grant-writing
- Set up long-term data collection and automation at the Sustainable Agriculture Systems Unit, such as an on-site weather station, soil moisture probes, harvest record-keeping, irrigation systems.
- Maintain Agroecology Lab and Agroecology Education Farm websites
- Lead administrative tasks for Agroecology Education Farm tours
This position will be best served by a good communicator with strong computer and organizational skills. It is expected that the person serving in this role will develop skills and knowledge on the job so a good attitude, strong interest in sustainable agriculture, and enthusiasm to learn will be essential.
Minimum Experience/Education:
- Combination of training and experience required to perform the duties
Department Required Skills:
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data analysis, reporting and communication
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently when needed
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:
- BS in agroecology, agriculture, environmental science, or ecology-related discipline or a 4-year degree with a strong familiarity of agriculture
Required License or Certification:
- Valid driver’s license
