Temporary Assoc. Director of Jayhawk Debate Institute
Position Overview
The Jayhawk Debate Institute is a summer workshop to prepare high school students for policy debate on the 2025-26 National Speech and Debate Association resolution. The Associate Director is responsible for developing, coordinating, and supervising the instructional curriculum for the workshop including organizing research, lectures, classes, and the debate tournament. The Associate Director will be responsible for monitoring day-to-day schedule and activities for the camp as well as pre-camp planning and post-camp assessment. This is a full-time, temporary staff position that begins May 25, 2026, and ends August 1, 2026.
Job Description
100%:
- Prior to Camp the Associate Director will work with the Camp Director to plan and coordinate the camp including developing camp schedule and curriculum, placing students in labs, coordinating camp lectures and other camp activities.
- During the JDI, assist in office duties, including but not limited to: answering phone calls, coordinating student check-outs from parents with campers, organizing files for distribution to labs, and management of relations between housing and staff.
- Run the camp tournaments.
- Participate in all camp activities.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Must be an active member of the NDT/CEDA policy debate community
- Previous leadership experience, as evidenced by application materials
- Previous experience teaching at summer debate camp, as evidenced by application materials
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate work and/or Bachelor's degree in Communication Studies or a related field
- Strong organizational skills
- Past experience working at Jayhawk Debate Institute
