Temporary Position - University Shuttle Driver
Position Summary
The employees hired for this position will serve as part of a temporary pool of reserve Campus Shuttle Drivers for UNC Asheville. Responsibilities include but are not limited to operating a vehicle to transport passengers to campus events and during emergency situations according to established shuttle schedules. Drivers will be required to follow established transportation routes in addition to providing specialized transportation services for special events. This position requires frequent interaction with a diverse population including students, staff, and faculty.
Minimum Education/Experience/Skills
- At least 5 years of safe driving experience.
- Must have a valid driver’s license
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills
- High School Graduate or GED; a valid NC Commercial Driver License with a (“P”) Passenger Endorsement.
- At least one year of experience operating a public transportation vehicle, heavy truck, or other heavy vehicle;
- Must be qualified to meet the legal requirements to drive a school bus in North Carolina.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Federal and State of North Carolina motor vehicle laws;
- Knowledge of regional roadway networks and geography;
- Skilled in operating a public transportation vehicle, heavy truck, or other heavy vehicle;
- Strong communication skills – both written and orally;
- Ability to work individually and as part of a team;
- Ability to read and comprehend documents, policies, and directives.
- Ability to problem solve;
- Ability to assist patrons entering and exiting assigned vehicle(s);
- Ability to utilize a two-way radio, telephone, and/or other equipment deemed necessary in order to perform the duties of the position.
Work Schedule and Hours
Hours per week and days are defined by the hiring department and based on departmental needs (Averaging 10 hrs per week). Part-Time: up to 29 hours/ week.
