Temporary Researcher
Job Summary
The Institute of Cognitive Science and the Human Bio-Behavioral Signals (HUBBS) Laboratory at the University of Colorado Boulder is seeking a highly motivated Researcher to join an interdisciplinary project at the intersection of artificial intelligence, speech analytics, behavioral health, and human performance. The successful candidate will contribute to the development, adaptation, and evaluation of speech-based AI technologies for monitoring team functioning and supporting behavioral health assessments. The researcher will be responsible for processing and analyzing speech data, developing machine learning models that quantify team functioning from speech and language, designing interpretable AI indicators for operational decision support, and conducting longitudinal analyses of team dynamics in long-duration missions. The position will involve close collaboration with behavioral scientists and stakeholders to ensure that AI-generated insights are relevant and human-centered. Ideal candidates will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: machine learning, natural language processing, speech and audio processing, computational behavioral science, and human-centered AI. Experience with Python, machine learning frameworks, speech analytics, and statistical data analysis is highly desirable. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams are essential.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Develop, adapt, and evaluate speech-based machine learning models for quantifying team functioning and behavioral health.
- Process and analyze audio, speech, language, and other behavioral datasets.
- Design and implement pipelines for audio preprocessing, speaker diarization, speech transcription, feature extraction, and machine learning model development.
- Conduct statistical analyses and validation studies to assess the reliability, interpretability, and operational utility of speech-based indicators of team functioning.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary partners, including behavioral scientists, operational psychologists, and stakeholders, to translate research findings into practical decision-support tools.
- Contribute to the design of human-centered visualizations and reporting interfaces that communicate AI-generated insights to end users.
- Prepare technical reports, conference papers, journal manuscripts, and presentations describing project findings.
- Participate in regular project meetings, contribute to project planning and execution, and support coordination among collaborating institutions.
- Assist with data management, documentation, and compliance with research and data governance requirements.
