University Theatre is the campus’ open access community theatre and operates multiple facilities: Stewart Theatre, in the Talley Student Center, and the Titmus Theatre and Kennedy McIlwee Studio Theatre, along with the associated shops and classroom spaces for producing theatre.Our mission is to create an inclusive, student-centered community that inspires meaningful connections grounded in the experience of making and sharing theatre. We present a wide variety of productions, experiences and provide spaces for campus organizations to present events.

NC State’s University Theatre is looking for a Shop Technician that will assist the Costume Shop, Scene Shop, or Electrics Shop Manager with the execution of designs in the respective shops on an as-needed basis.
Costume Shop Duties include: sewing (by machine and by hand), alterations, repairs, ironing, laundry, fittings, costume crafts, and other assignments based upon skill set and shop needs.
Scene Shop Duties include: safe use of power and hand tools, basic carpentry and construction, painting, re-furbishing and refinishing of furniture and set pieces, upholstery, and other assignments based upon skill set and shop needs.
Electrics Shop duties include: hanging, focusing, or striking of lighting fixtures, installation of temporary show related lighting, sound or special effects, repair or maintenance of lighting, sound and/or projection equipment, and other assignments based upon skill set and shop needs.

Work Schedule: On an as-needed basis; schedule will include irregular hours; nights and weekends possible.
Minimum Experience/Education: High School diploma or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Department Required Skills:
- Skills related to the technical execution of theatrical designs including, but not limited to:
- basic sewing, crafting, and garment construction AND/OR
- basic carpentry, painting, and structural construction AND/OR
- operation and installation of theatrical lighting and/or sound equipment.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:
- Previous experience working within a fast-paced theatrical production environment.
