Tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor in South and/or Southeast Asian Political Thought
We are seeking to appoint a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor in South or Southeast Asian political thought.
We are looking for a scholar whose work engages seriously with political thinking from South and/or Southeast Asia, but whose ambition is to connect thinking from their region of study across Asia and on a global scale. The successful candidate will have a research agenda that uses past or present categories and concepts to open new ground in political theory, addressing questions that matter now.
Candidates should:
- hold a PhD in political science, political theory, history of political thought, or a cognate discipline focusing on South or Southeast Asian political thought.
- demonstrate outstanding research track record for career stage, with the capacity to produce research that shapes the field, evidenced by a strong record of published research or — for early-career candidates — a distinctive research programme.
- demonstrate the ability to teach Asian and global political theory at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
- have excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and commitment relevant to teaching, pastoral care, and administering the PPGA Programme.
- demonstrate a willingness to engage in interdisciplinary conversations across the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences and beyond.
The appointee will join the Public Policy and Global Affairs Division within School of Social Sciences and will be expected to contribute to CoHASS’s interdisciplinary research environment, particularly the Global Asia priority. There will be opportunities to supervise PhD students, develop new taught postgraduate programmes, and collaborate across schools and centres within CoHASS and the wider university.
