The Department of Physics, Optical Engineering, and NanoEngineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to support the Optical Engineering degree program starting August 2026.

Requirements include a Ph.D. degree in optical engineering, optics, photonics, or related fields by the time of appointment; a focus on optical systems design or engineering is preferred. Candidates should have evidence of, or demonstrated potential for, excellence in undergraduate teaching; Outstanding teaching and enthusiasm for delivering individualized attention and support to undergraduate students is a significant criterion for success at Rose-Hulman; we are looking for candidates who embrace the mission and vision of Rose-Hulman to join our collegial team. Essential job functions include teaching, advising and mentoring students, continued professional development, and providing service to the department, Institute, and professional communities. The successful candidate will use effective approaches to teach introductory physics courses and labs, as well as upper division courses in optical engineering, including lab courses. The candidate will receive mentoring from experienced faculty colleagues to support professional growth and can develop and teach upper-level electives in their area of expertise. The successful candidate will join a team of 21 members dedicated to delivering undergraduate degree programs in physics, optical engineering, and nanoengineering, as well as an M.S. program in optical engineering. The department also supports several minors and certificates, including a semiconductor certificate, quantum science, computing, and engineering minor, astronomy minor, and a solid-state physics/materials science minor. Active research programs include lasers, optical fibers, nonlinear optics, lens design, holography, optical metrology, semiconductors, nanotechnology, and photonics.
