The University of Wuppertal invites applications for a professorship in broadband terahertz circuit technology. The position will be based in the School of Electrical, Information and Media Technology. We are looking for an outstanding personality who will continuously develop this area in research and teaching.
DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
The professorship focuses on research and teaching in the field of high-frequency electrical engineering systems in the terahertz range, with potential areas of specialisation in
- 6G/THz communications using broadband analogue/digital circuit technology
- Energy-efficient processing of analogue/digital sensor signals for chip-based THz systems
- A/D and D/A conversion for THz systems in the context of IoT applications and machine learning at chip level
- Analog/digital computing for THz systems in the context of artificial intelligence applications
- As an internationally networked researcher, you should be able to contribute to current international research. Candidates must demonstrate the willingness and ability to cooperate in research within the school and at our university, as well as with leading national and international research institutions and companies in the local industrial sector. The professorship contributes to the University of Wuppertal's research focus area "Environment, Engineering, and Safety." It also contributes to strengthening the school's core research areas of "Artificial Intelligence, Data and Media Technology," "Digital Transformation", "Electromobility and Automotive", and "Materials.Inspire.Systems".
- You are ready to play an active role in establishing a planned interdisciplinary centre for terahertz technologies at the University of Wuppertal.
- Your research topics are compatible with the University of Wuppertal's interdisciplinary research approach in the interdisciplinary centres "Wuppertal Center for Smart Materials & Systems (CM@S)", "Interdisciplinary Centre for Mobility and Energy (IZME)", „Machine Learning and Data Analytics (IZMD)" or "Port Hamiltonian Systems (PHS)" and the university's activity area "AI for Empowering the Future (AI4EF)":
- In teaching, the professorship is involved in the school's Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in the specialisations 'Electrical Engineering', 'Smart & Sustainable Systems' and in the English-language master's degree programme 'Smart Materials & Systems'. You are open to modern teaching methods.
- We expect German language skills at level B2 or the willingness to achieve this level within two years at the latest.
- Participation in academic self-administration is expected as a matter of course.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Completed degree (university or university of applied sciences) in electrical engineering, information technology, or a related discipline
- Special aptitude for academic work, usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate, a topic relevant to the advertised position is desirable
- Pedagogical aptitude, which is proven by appropriate previous experience or, exceptionally, demonstrated in the appointment procedure
You are able to demonstrate your qualification for the position by publications, relevant teaching experience, international orientation (e.g., international collaborations, activities in national and international bodies), the successful acquisition of third-party funds, project / practical experience, etc. Please enclose relevant certificates and supporting documents with your application.
Starting as junior professors, they are appointed normally as civil servants for a period of three years. These positions are extended for three more years if the junior professors have successfully passed an interim evaluation. After a positive tenure evaluation in the sixth year, the candidates are appointed associate professors (legal basis: W 3, permanent position). Both evaluation procedures are based on a target agreement which is part of the appointment negotiations. The target agreement and a written confirmation verifying the negotiated financial and personal resources of the professorship are an integral part of the acceptance agreement between university and candidates.
