Position Summary
Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) invites applications for multiple, tenured/tenure-track positions at all ranks (assistant, associate or full professor) in the Department of Chemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences as a part of the Faculty 100 strategic hiring initiative. Successful candidates are expected to develop visible, externally funded research programs to address research priorities in measurement science. The department seeks scientists who develop new quantitative tools, instrumentation, and measurement approaches that answer previously inaccessible chemical, physical, and/or biological questions in any area related to chemistry. In addition to ensemble approaches, research directions may include measurements that resolve chemical and biological heterogeneity across individual molecules, particles, cells, and beyond. This initiative is intended to grow a nationally distinctive community around interdisciplinary quantitative measurement to these system -from single molecules and nanoparticles to living systems, enabled by advances in instrumentation, spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, microscopy, and machine learning.
Appointments would begin August 1, 2027, although an earlier or later start date is negotiable. Applications received by October 16, 2026, will receive full consideration, and applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.
Responsibilities: Tenured/tenure-track faculty at Indiana University Bloomington are expected to substantially contribute to the overall academic excellence of the department by developing and maintaining a record of scholarly accomplishment, research leadership, and success or strong potential in securing competitive external research support, commensurate with rank; teaching and mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students as designated by the department chair; and actively providing service within the department, school, and university alongside active engagement with the profession and community.
These positions are located on the campus of Indiana University, Bloomington (IUB) in Bloomington, Indiana, and successful candidates are expected to work on the IUB campus to allow full engagement with the department, school, campus, and community. Indiana University bases its tenure and promotion recommendations upon performance in three areas: research, teaching, and service. All individuals hired through this initiative are expected to excel in research and demonstrate strong performance in teaching and service.
Minimum Qualifications: All applicants should have a PhD in Chemistry (or a related field) and postdoctoral experience and be committed to excellence in scholarship and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
