The Socioeconomic Impact of Disorders of Gut-Brain Interaction (DGBI) in Malaysia
The Socioeconomic Impact of Disorders of Gut-Brain Interaction (DGBI) in Malaysia
Pharmacy, Monash University Malaysia
Applications accepted all year round. Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide).
About the Project
This PhD project will assess the socioeconomic burden of Disorders of Gut–Brain Interaction (DGBI) — focusing on healthcare resource utilization (HRU) and productivity loss in conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Functional Dyspepsia (FD), and Functional Constipation (FC). Using a dual-method design, the study combines a retrospective cohort analysis of HRU data from medical records with a cross-sectional survey capturing the impact of DGBI on work productivity and quality of life (QoL). By integrating real-world clinical evidence with patient-reported outcomes, this research will provide a comprehensive picture of the economic and QoL impact of DGBI on individuals and the healthcare system.
