JOB DESCRIPTION
COURSE and SCHEDULE
THEA 141 Introduction to Technical Theatre
Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 AM-11:10 AM in the Spring and Fall semester. This course has 3 lecture and 3 lab units.

Primary Purpose:
PRIMARY PURPOSE
Duties and responsibilities as presented are intended to be representative and not restrictive. The District reserves the right to modify the assignment and allocation of duties in accordance with operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in any discipline AND two years of professional experience
OR
Associate degree in any discipline AND six years of professional experience
OR
Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.
OR
The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

Desirable Qualifications:
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to collaborate with and teach students from diverse backgrounds, fostering an inclusive learning environment while imparting the principles of theatre arts with a focus on production & design and technical theatre. Skilled at adapting instructional methods to meet varying skill levels and learning styles.
Demonstrated proficiency in both the theory and practical application of traditional and contemporary technical theatre principles. Utilize a lecture/laboratory format combined with project-based learning to teach a broad range of technical theatre disciplines, including:

  • Theatre History
  • The Design Process
  • Scenic Design
  • Stagecraft and Scenic Construction
  • Scenic Painting
  • Prop Design and Construction
  • Lighting Design, Lighting Production and Electricity
  • Costume Design and Construction
  • Makeup Design
  • Audio Design, Production and Reinforcement

Understanding of Career and Technical Education (CTE) program objectives, supported by extensive hands-on experience as a theatrical technician and stagehand in theme parks and entertainment venues.
Committed to preparing students for real-world careers in the performing arts and entertainment industries.
LMS experience/training (Canvas).
Detailed experience teaching technical theatre courses, especially introductory classes, with innovative teaching practices supporting success and retention of women, students of color and students with disabilities.
Experience collaborating with faculty, staff, and/or community leaders in programs and initiatives that are specifically designed to assist historically underrepresented students achieve their educational goals.

Working Conditions:

Salary Range: $1572.67 - $1725.85 per lecture unit rate, $1572.67 - $1725.85 per lab parity unit rate, $1258.16 - $1380.60 per lab unit rate

Special Instructions Summary: SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS SUMMARY
This recruitment will remain active for a period of one year, from the position opening date. If there is no longer a need to fill, the position may be closed sooner, and applicants will be notified.
This is a continuous recruitment to fill part-time, and temporary faculty assignments on an as-needed basis. When the need to fill arises, the department will refer to this pool of part-time faculty.
