Position Profile:

The Department of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences, in the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, Faculty of Science at Western University, is pleased to announce a search for a limited-term (3-year) position in Financial/Actuarial Analytics at the rank of Assistant Professor or Lecturer. The rank and salary will be commensurate with the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience. The starting date will be July 1, 2026 or as negotiated.

This appointment is intended to attract an exceptional and versatile educator with demonstrated expertise spanning Financial Modelling, Actuarial Science, Statistical Science, and Data Analytics, and whose contributions to teaching excellence and curriculum development will have a meaningful and lasting impact across these programs.

Academic Expectations:

The successful candidate will be expected to teach the equivalent of four full course equivalents (FCEs) per academic year. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses in Financial Modeling, introductory-level undergraduate courses in Actuarial Science, Statistical Science and Data Science, as well as finance and business-oriented courses within the Master of Data Analytics (MDA) program.

In addition to teaching, the appointee will contribute service to the Department’s undergraduate and graduate programs and play an active role in the ongoing development and delivery of the Master of Data Analytics program. Service activities may include, but are not limited to, student recruitment initiatives, periodic curriculum review, program development, and other departmental service roles as appropriate.

Qualifications or Experience and Skills Required:

It is essential that the successful candidate demonstrate a proven record of developing and delivering high-quality courses in Financial and/or Actuarial Analytics, commensurate with their career stage. The successful candidate must hold a Master’s degree, Ph.D. preferred, in Financial Modelling/Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a closely related discipline, and possess a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in finance, insurance, or a related field. A professional designation in finance or actuarial science will be considered an asset.

The candidate must also demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to convey complex quantitative concepts clearly and effectively to diverse student audiences. Additional assets include prior teaching experience in Financial Analytics, Actuarial Science, or Data Science programs; experience contributing to professionally oriented graduate programs in Financial or Actuarial Analytics; postdoctoral experience; and a demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of collaborative, multidisciplinary teaching and research teams, including evidence of contributions to joint academic initiatives, curriculum development, or other collegial activities that extend beyond individual teaching responsibilities.

Compensation Details:

$125,000 - $155,000
