Salary Range: Targeted salary ranges from $39,500 to $50,400, based on experience.

Job Description

OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center is Oklahoma's only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-Designated Cancer Center, and one of only 73 NCI-Designated Cancer Centers in the United States. At the Stephenson Cancer Center, we have an exciting new job opportunity that could be right for you! The Tobacco Treatment Specialist provides tobacco dependence treatment counseling to patients, employees and others as assigned. Demonstrates effective counseling theories and strategies to establish a collaborative relationship, facilitates client involvement in treatment and commitment to change.

Duties:

  • Conducts an assessment interview including comprehensive and accurate data needed for treatment planning.
  • Develops an individualized treatment plan using evidence-based treatment strategies.
  • Provides individual and group therapy that includes evidence-based, tobacco treatment services to patients and employees. Provides clear and accurate information about pharmacotherapy options available and their therapeutic use. Follows patients closely through quitting process and makes adjustments in the treatment plan as needed.
  • Makes notations on patient progress in the medical record system and updates databases
  • Makes referrals to the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline and other professional resources as appropriate.
  • Assists with analysis and interpretation of data.
  • Trains and presents the program and referral process to in-service clinic staff at physician conferences. Designs and presents outreach programs to community groups.
  • Participates in tobacco research as projects become available by recruiting and consenting research subjects and collecting data. Seeks to improve program through Quality Improvement efforts.
  • Consults with referring physicians in a timely manner.
  • Tobacco Treatment Specialist training required at the Mayo clinic or other approved sources within the first six months and certification within 24 months of training. Some travel may be required both in state and out of state for continuing education, outreach, and training.
  • May supervise other employees.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Job Requirements

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Counseling, Chemical Dependence, Public Health, or other related healthcare field, AND:

  • 12 months experience providing counseling or other patient services.

Certifications/Licenses: Current Oklahoma Licensure in Nursing, Counseling, or Chemical Dependency
