Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Major/Essential Functions
- Repairs and installs fixtures and systems - potable water, natural gas, sewage and pumps. Ensures that all projects or jobs are safely accomplished as scheduled to meet established standards of performance, quality, and code/regulations.
- Maintains specialized systems - stills, backflow prevention devices, water treatment and fire protection systems. Ensures that all systems are maintained to meet established standards of performance, quality and code/regulations.
- Maintains records of materials and labor expended for each project or job assignment. Estimates and assesses job or project materials requirements and prepares requisition for materials from supply warehouse or vendor. All required materials will be obtained prior to starting work on each scheduled job.
- Maintains vehicle, tools, equipment and materials in an orderly and safe condition. Operates vehicles including pickups, trucks and vans. Secures vehicle, equipment and areas of operation.
Required Qualifications
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent.
This position requires eligibility to drive TTU vehicles, including a valid U.S. driver license and two years of driving experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of the standard tools, equipment, materials, methods & practices of the assigned trade
- Knowledge of Uniform Plumbing Code & NFPA standards
- Proficiency in interpretation of freehand sketches, schematics, blueprints, as-built drawings and diagrams
