JOB PURPOSE: Design, deliver, and coordinate services to SSS-eligible UW students (first generation, low-income students and students with disabilities) to facilitate their good academic standing, persistence, and timely degree completion. Provide academic, career/major, financial, and personal support and services through one-on-one, holistic advising to mitigate the barriers to educational achievement commonly found among disadvantaged students and to promote habits and skills leading to student success.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a 10-month position on a P-220 Calendar Type that is grant-funded and is considered 'at-will' employment. The work calendar for this position starts in late July and ends in late May. We have two open positions that we will be hiring for.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and deliver appropriate, individualized advising services and provide group workshops for program participants.
- Independently recruit and serve program participants under federal and Student Educational Opportunity (SEO) guidelines.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with UW colleges, departments, and offices and implement initiatives to further post-secondary success for participants.
- Maintain strict compliance with federal legislation, regulations, and grant guidance as well as UW and SEO policies and procedures.
- Undertake small- and large-scale event planning and implementation.
- Market program services and advertise participant successes to the public.
- Collect, verify, and document extensive participant data and educational outcomes in an accurate and timely manner.
- Use Microsoft Office applications daily to complete tasks and present information.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field
Experience: 2 years of comparable experience
Required: Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the Driving for University Business SAP for professional travel is required. A successful criminal background check necessary for working with minors is required.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's Degree
- Knowledge and understanding of issues affecting college student success and retention
- Proven ability to motivate students to undertake actions and activities that facilitate their academic and personal success
- Instructional experience at the post-secondary level
- Experience working with TRIO-eligible student populations
- Familiarity or experience working with federal educational grants under accountability standards
- Strong attention to detail and capacity to remain organized while completing projects within established deadlines.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
