UCM Inclusion Assistant (Fixed Term)

About the division/school:

The University of Cambridge cares for the UK's highest concentration of Designated Collections outside London, welcoming over a million visitors a year to its publicly accessible Museums, central Library, and Botanic Garden.

Working together as the University of Cambridge Museums (UCM) consortium, these collections deliver a wide variety of experiences and programmes to many different audiences and communities, both local and international. The University Collections comprise eight Museums, the central Library, and the Botanic Garden.

The UCM Team works across the University collections, with audiences and with museums regionally, nationally and internationally. Our programmes support inclusive engagement for everyone - unlocking the University's collections, and the research which underpins them, for a larger and more diverse audience.

About the Role:

This role will provide crucial office-based administrative support and event coordination for a busy team delivering a range of socially engaged community programmes across the University collections and city. It will support the smooth planning, delivery and evaluation of activities with a range of audiences including adults, children and young people.

The role holder will work with guidance from the Engagement and Inclusion Manager and Inclusion and Community programme leads in the UCM Team.

About you:

We are looking for someone who is a natural team player with good self-motivation, excellent organisational and administrative skills who can rise to the challenge of supporting a varied and busy programme. The postholder will have the ability to communicate well with a range of people internally across the collections, but also with a range of community audiences and partners.

This role will be office-based and will require light manual handling when coordinating the movement of materials across the collections in the city for events and activities.

Benefits of working at Cambridge include:

  • Competitive rates of pay with automatic service-related pay progression and annual cost of living increases
  • Generous annual leave allowance of 36 days paid leave (including bank holidays)
  • Generous maternity, adoption and shared parental leave entitlement and other family friendly schemes (e.g. workplace nurseries and salary exchange schemes for childcare)
  • An auto-enrolment pension scheme, with a generous employer contribution
  • Travel benefits and retail discounts at over 2,000 local and national stores.

The University of Cambridge is committed to supporting our staff to thrive both professionally and personally. We aim to support a good work/life balance, whilst retaining the positive aspects of our unique in-person environment and culture. Elements of this role are suitable for hybrid working, where staff can split their time between in-person collaboration and remote working. The frequency of the remote elements of the role can be discussed with the recruiting manager.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2027 in the first instance.
