The Bonifazi group, led by Prof. Bonifazi is situated within the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Vienna. Our group focuses on ambitious targeted organic synthesis to develop functional organic architectures with tailored properties, enabling the application in real-world technologies with an interest in solar-energy conversion.

Your personal sphere of play:

The successful candidate will join a dynamic international research environment dedicated to developing functional molecular architectures for light harvesting, photocatalysis, electrosynthesis, and optoelectronic applications. The research activities will focus on the design and synthesis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heteroatom-doped graphenoid systems through the development of new synthetic methodologies based on radical annulation strategies, photocatalytic transformations, and electrosynthetic approaches.

The employment duration is 3 years.

Your future tasks:

The selected candidate will work on the preparation and characterization of sophisticated molecular architectures using modern synthetic methodologies, including transition-metal catalysis and radical-mediated transformations, and multistep organic synthesis.

Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to:

  • Participate in international publications/ academic articles and presentations.
  • Participate in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement.
  • Supervise students.
  • Collaborate with national and international partners.
  • Support the application process for projects and securing third-party funds.
  • Take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.

This is part of your personality:

  • You hold a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry.
  • Previous experience working with organic synthesis, total synthesis, electrosynthesis and catalysis is required.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation, as well as the ability to critically analyze scientific literature.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and passion for science.
  • Ability to work independently in your field of expertise and collaborate in a research team.
  • Great sense of thoroughness and organization.
  • Previous experience in supervision or with students will be particularly considered an added value.
