Where will you be:

The position will be in the Department of Economic Sociology. As a University Assistant postdoctoral, you will work in Bernhard Kittel's research group. The research is focused on institutional and organizational changes in economy and society. At the center of this work are processes in which political, economic, and social actors respond to new challenges, thereby transforming existing institutional orders, market structures, and societal guiding principles.

Specific focal points may include, for example, the labor market, the welfare state, or social cohesion. In terms of content, the significance of norms and institutions for individual action is a primary focus. In the department, the group represents a theory-driven, quantitative approach in a methodologically integrative research setting. The employee is expected to develop their own independent research profile.

What you will be doing:

In addition to their research, candidates assist with and participate in administrative tasks and teaching activities at all levels, including participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance.

What we expect from you:

  • Outstanding records in a PhD program in the social sciences, preferably sociology, and strong demonstrated ability or potential for high-quality research at the forefront of their field.
  • We expect you to publish your research results in high-ranking academic journals.
  • You will secure external funding for research projects.
  • You have a strong background in quantitative research, preferably in experimental sociology or computational social science
  • Applicants need to have completed their PhD (or be very near completion when applying) as a doctoral degree is required to finalize the contract.
  • As a group of researchers seeking to publish in leading journals, we rely on candidates being fluent in English (written and spoken; C1 level).
  • Knowledge of German is not a required precondition but we expect you to learn it.

Fixed-term, 40 hours/week contract and fair salary:The basic salary of EUR 5.014,30 (14 times a year) for a period of 3 years. This increases if we can credit professional experience. Additionally there is the option to extend an additional year if both parties agree.

Active support to publish in the leading journals of our field and to succeed in the international academic job market. PhD students and Post Docs from the Department of Economic Sociology have received offers from leading European universities.
