Your personal sphere of influence:
We are looking for a highly motivated and hardworking Prae Doc (PhD student) at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry.
Your position is at the interface of radiochemistry/pharmacy, peptide chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and nuclear medicine. See also: https://mindt-group.univie.ac.at/.
As part of our diverse team, you will be developing novel, radiometal- and peptide-based radiopharmaceuticals for the diagnosis (nuclear imaging) and therapy of cancer (theranostics). The novel compounds will be assessed first in vitro (cells) and then in vivo (mouse model).
You have previous knowledge in the areas of radio-, peptide-, and/or bioinorganic chemistry related to oncological medicinal challenges.
Moreover, you have had opportunities to teach and have a working knowledge of university procedures and structures Ideally, you have been involved in scientific work and have gathered some international experience.
The contract duration is 3 years with a preliminary limitation of 1,5 years and will automatically be extended to 3 years unless the employer hands in a non-extension declaration after 12 months. An extension up to a total of 4 years is then possible provided the excellent performance of the candidate.
Your future tasks:
You actively participate in research, teaching and administration, which means:
- You will be involved in research projects and among others, develop novel radiopharmaceuticals and evaluate their use in pre-clinical medical oncology research. The research project involves:
- Peptide synthesis
- Bioconjugation chemistry
- Radiolabelling reactions and quality control
- In vitro evaluation of novel radiopharmaceuticals (e.g., on cells)
- In vivo evaluation or assistance in such experiments (mice)
- You will design experiments aimed at the development of novel peptide- and radiometal-based radiotracers for use in oncology.
- We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months
- You hold courses independently to the extent of the provisions of the collective agreement.
- You will take on administrative tasks in research and teaching.
This is part of your personality:
- You have a diploma or masters degree in chemistry, preferably with a focus on radio-, peptide- or bioinorganic chemistry or equivalent qualification.
- Experience with preclinical evaluation of novels compounds (in vitro and/or in vivo) is a plus.
- Very good knowledge of written and oral English is essential, working knowledge of German an advantage.
- As an enthusiastic, hard-working, dedicated person who enjoys working independently as well as being a team player, you will blend into and be a valuable addition to our group.
