The University Centre on Tautomeric Research and Education in Science and Technology (UCTREST) is a newly established independent unit of University of Plovdiv, associated to the Faculty of Chemistry. UCTREST is an interdisciplinary center of high level fundamental and applied research and training in the proton transfer related hi-tech materials and processes, sensors and tautomeric controlled drug design, headed by Professor Liudmil Antonov. It consists 3 subdivisions, namely "Fundamental aspects of the tautomerism", "Exploiting excited state intramolecular proton transfer" and "Tautomerism and bioactivity", each contaning two R3 and two R2 researchers and a number of PhD students.
UCTREST invites applications for a head of the subdivision "Tautomerism and bioactivity". The successful candidate is expected to contribute to cutting-edge research focused on tautomeric systems.
We are looking for a senior researcher (R3), hired on a temporary base (20 hours per week with a gross monthly salary of 1 500 euro) for 6 months with possible prolongation depending on the results. The requirements and duties are described below.

Skills/Qualifications
- Degree of habilitated doctor in organic chemistry & synthetic photochemistry or related discipline;
- Have at least 10 years’ experience in medicinal chemistry (early drug design and discovery, synthetic chemistry and chemistry of natural products, pharmacology) obtained in both pharmaceutical industry and academia;
- Have practical experience in identifying novel bioactive molecules provided by relevant patents and scientific publications;
- Extensive research experience in tautomer-based molecular design provided by relevant publication track record;
- Have practical expertise in using spectroscopic methods;
- Have extensive expertise in using molecular modelling tools (SeeSAR, Gromacs etc.);
- Have computational expertise in development and implementation of AI-based approaches and protocols in drug design and discovery (incl. homology modeling, molecular docking, virtual screening, molecular dynamics simulations etc.);
- Research expertise and multitasking skills needed to interact effectively with an international research team and to work in a multidisciplinary environment;
- Have experience and the ability to lead / be a research team leader;
- Have documented experience in leading and/or participation (in the past and currently) in research projects financed from external sources and funding acquisition;
- Demonstrate organizational (organization of scientific conferences & meetings) and didactic achievements in teaching and supervising doctoral students and tutoring undergraduate and graduate courses in medicinal chemistry;
- Actively participate in the scientific and organizational life of the scientific community.
- A proven scientific impact, evidenced by an h-index of at least 10 (according to Scopus).
Specific Requirements
To manage independently the subdivision, to participate in training within the group and teaching at various levels, to prepare scientific publications and funding applications.

Selection process
The selection will be based strictly on merit. Pre-selection process will be performed by an international selection committee, based on the application documents. If needed the committee will contact the applicants in the shortlist for additional information.
