Job Title: Upward Bound Instructional Staff (Math, Science, English-Trio Upward Bound) - part-time, grant-funded
Department: TRiO/Upward Bound
Work Location: Education Center at Blue Island
Duties: Trio Upward Bound is a federally funded program that provides services designed to improve academic, career, and personal skills to prepare first-generation (neither parent has a four year degree) and low-income high school students to be successful in high school and college. The services are offered during the academic year and the summer. The academic year component consists of after school tutoring and a Saturday Academic Academy. Students will be tutored and take classes and workshops in math, science, English, college/career planning and social development.
Education/Experience: The Upward Bound Math/Science/English instructor must have a Bachelor’s degree in a teaching field, at least three years secondary or college teaching experience, experience teaching students, knowledge of teaching techniques to address diverse learning styles, and the ability to be energetic, creative and enthusiastic in the classroom.
Qualifications: The Upward Bound Math/Science/English instructor will be required to deliver basic skills instruction and supplemental coursework. The main responsibilities will include planning, implementing and evaluating curriculum in the assigned class. Other responsibilities will include assisting students with academic and career goal-setting and planning, providing role modeling for students, and sharing expertise/experiences in classroom presentations/discussions. Chaperoning fieldtrips is optional, but not required. Training will be required.
