Johnson C. Smith University invites dynamic and dedicated applicants for the role of Instructor for the Upward Bound program. The successful candidate will be expected to design and deliver engaging, interdisciplinary learning experiences that align with program goals and academic standards. Instruction may span a variety of subject areas, including mathematics, science, English, foreign language, the arts, communication, and financial literacy. The role emphasizes innovative teaching approaches, collaboration with program leadership, and the integration of experiential and active-learning opportunities that inspire student curiosity and achievement. The Instructor will also contribute to the overall academic environment by supporting student growth, maintaining effective communication with program staff, and participating in continuous program improvement efforts.
The ideal candidate will be an exceptional educator and mentor with strong communication and interpersonal skills. They will demonstrate the ability to engage and motivate students from diverse backgrounds, utilize technology effectively in instruction, and create a positive, inclusive learning environment. This position reports to the Upward Bound Director and Academic Coordinator and plays an integral role in advancing the University’s mission through high-quality instruction, academic support, and student-centered programming. Qualifications
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Demonstrated expertise in the relevant academic area and the ability to design and implement innovative, outcomes-driven curriculum are required. Applicants should have experience integrating instructional technology to enhance student learning and engagement. A strong commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds, coupled with the ability to motivate and support their academic success, is essential. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. An equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience may be considered.
