Overview

This Using chemical-genetics to inhibit and characterise (undruggable) enzymes project at University of Dundee will build on the strategy to develop a method to inhibit three phosphatase complexes with known substrate-binding motifs, and then potentially expand the system into other enzymes classes, all of which are currently undruggable.

Programme Structure

The student will

use this system to characterise how these different enzymes work
perform mass-spectrometry to identify the enzymes' direct substrates
use a range of cell biology techniques, including live and fixed cell microscopy, to characterise the processes that these enzymes control
develop a technology that could transform many different fields of research, potentially revealing new avenues for disease treatment

Admission Requirements

GPA: Upper Second Class

English requirements: We are not aware of any English requirements for this programme.

General requirements: You should have an honours degree at 2.1 or above, and/or a Masters degree in a relevant discipline.

Other requirements: IELTS 6.5
