The Veterinary Medical Center within the College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a Veterinary Care Technician 3- LA- ICU: Work involves assisting a veterinarian in technical procedures and activities involving large animal care (Equine & Farm Animal), specifically in the areas of pain management and critical care. Successful candidate assists team clinicians and care-giving colleagues with the reception, treatment, surgical assistance, and monitoring of all large animal patients, requiring emergency and/or intensive care. Candidate oversees and instructs professional veterinary students in preparation of animals and equipment for medical procedures and delivery of care. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: providing direct large animal care and assistance to clinicians and professional students in the provision of care; providing care and treatments to all large animal patients; surgical assistance, instructing students in the preparation of animals and equipment for medical procedures and delivery of care; assisting clinicians and students; communicating with clinicians on critical changes in status of patients; maintaining progress reports when students are not available; attending and/or conducting patient shift transition rounds to ensure information transfer to incoming/outgoing technicians; entering charges in ezyVet for all services rendered according to hospital fee schedules; other duties as assigned. The successful candidates will be expected to work 40 hours a week with required holidays and on-call based on a team rotation.
Hiring Range - $28.22 - $35.29
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of accredited program within clinical discipline; advanced degree may be desirable. Requires clinical license or certification. Registered Veterinary Technician through The Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board. Must pass the Veterinary Technician National Exam. 1 year of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Standing for long periods of time.
Pushing/pulling/lifting up to 75 pounds.
Exposure to animal dander and/or zoonotic diseases.
Exposure to needle sticks, hazardous chemicals, and/or bio hazardous waste.
