Vice Chair for Education - The UTMB Department of Internal Medicine seeks a Vice Chair for Education to provide strategic leadership for the department's comprehensive educational mission spanning undergraduate medical education (UME), graduate medical education (GME), continuing medical education (CME), and interprofessional learning initiatives. This senior faculty leader will champion educational excellence, innovation, and learner well-being across all programs, ensuring alignment with UTMB's strategic goals and accreditation requirements.
A critical focus of this role is ensuring that faculty who receive allocated effort for educational activities are actively engaged in delivering high-quality education. The Vice Chair will maintain an active academic and/or clinical role while providing strategic oversight for all departmental educational programs.
Educational Requirements & Experience
- MD, DO, or MD/PhD degree from an accredited institution
- Board certification in Internal Medicine or internal medicine subspecialty by the ABIM (or equivalent)
- Eligibility for medical licensure in Texas
- Academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor at an accredited medical school, or qualifications consistent with appointment at this level at UTMB
- Demonstrated leadership experience in medical education, such as program director, clerkship director, associate dean role, or equivalent educational leadership position
- Proven record of excellence in teaching, curriculum design, and educational scholarship
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills with demonstrated ability to lead through influence and collaboration in complex academic healthcare environments
