Visiting Assistant Professor - Assistant Director of Bands
The Moores School of Music at the University of Houston seeks candidates for a, non-tenure track, Visiting Assistant Professor of Band serving as the Assistant Director of Bands. Applicants with expertise in Marching Band and Wind Band pedagogy are especially encouraged to apply. This position will report directly to the Director of the Moores School of Music via the Director of Bands. Public school K-12 experience is encouraged but not required. This is a full-time position that begins August of 2026. The position may be eligible for renewal beyond the first year.
The Assistant Director of Bands will work with the Director of Bands and the Director of Athletic Bands in all aspects of the program. Primary responsibilities will include assisting the instruction and coordination of the Spirit of Houston Cougar Marching Band, Cougar Brass, and Spirit Teams, conducting the Symphonic Band, and assisting in recruitment and engagement for the University of Houston Band Program. Other duties may be assigned based on experience, including academic courses related to band, music education, and conducting. Further responsibilities may encompass providing service to the university community and the profession. This position is considered a teaching position and is loaded at 80% teaching and 20% service to the institution.
