The Sociology and Anthropology Department at Stonehill College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology position to begin in August 2026. We seek candidates who are enthusiastic about teaching and mentoring undergraduates and who demonstrate a clear understanding of the importance of social justice in higher education.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The teaching load for visiting faculty is four courses per semester. For the Fall 2026 semester, the successful candidate will be expected to teach two sections of Introduction to Sociology, a sociological theories course, and a research methods course. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong record of teaching Introduction to Sociology and with expertise that complements existing departmental strengths.

Education & Experience

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Sociology or a related discipline. ABD candidates will be considered if they have relevant experience and an established plan to complete the degree by August 1, 2026.

Applicants are asked to complete the online application and submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, one example of scholarly work, and a teaching portfolio. The teaching portfolio should include evidence of teaching experience, course syllabi, and a statement of teaching philosophy. In the teaching philosophy statement, applicants should describe how social justice informs their teaching materials and methods. References will be requested prior to interviews.
