The University of Roehampton seeks a Visiting Lecturer to join our Sustainable Engineering & Technology Education Centre (SETEC) team to teach one or more modules detailed below:
L4 Architectural Design: Principles and Representation (A/AE/AT)
- Architectural design through studio-based learning. Working at a small architectural scale, exploring how architectural ideas are developed. Support is required for studios from Architects in practice.
L5 Estimating, Tendering and Commercial Management (CM and QS)
- Estimating (including software – CostX preferred), NRM, tendering and financial management. Desirable would be BIM experience and understanding of relevant industry changes with the advent of AI.
L5 Soil Mechanics (CE)
- Site investigation and surveys, soil sampling, investigation reports, lab testing, shear strength, permeability, plasticity, particle size distribution, effective stress, bearing capacity, settlement.
L5 Procurement, Contract Administration and Professional Development (CM/AT/BS/QS)
- Procurement strategies and client requirements, types of procurement, basic contract law, standard forms of contract, contract administration and some experience of professional ethics.
L6 Structures and Geomatic Engineering Design (CE)
- For the geomatics aspect of the module. Design foundation types based on site-specific conditions, stability and performance of retaining structures, potential failures and safety and performance criteria.
L7 Data Analytics and AI (CMDI)
- Evaluation of data analytics and AI’s role in engineering and construction project decision making. Analysing project data for insights, reliability and ethics, and using visualisation for stakeholder understanding.
A = BSc Architecture, AE = BEng Architectural Engineering, AT = BSc Architectural Technology, CM = BSc Construction Management, QS = BSc Quantity Surveying, BS = BSc Building Surveying, CE = BEng Civil Engineering, CMDI = MSc Construction Management and Digital Innovation.
This appointment will involve leading, preparation, delivery and marking the modules and they are 30-credit modules which will require a total of 60 hours of teaching contact.
Teaching takes place face to face on campus in Roehampton.
We ensure our curriculum supports good student outcomes through engagement with employability and skill-led experiential learning. We also support students by providing activities and material that extend beyond scheduled contact time.
The successful applicant will have experience in student focused teaching, combining traditional lectures, seminars, practical sessions and student led discussions. with excellent interpersonal and analytical skills. Industry experience is desirable as well as strong digital skills and knowledge of relevant software.

The rate of pay for Visiting Lecturers is £57.52 per hour. This rate includes: contact time, preparation and marking and annual leave. Additional marking and moderation and content development is paid at the rate of £27.32 per hour. When required this will be agreed in advance by a Dean or Deputy Dean.
