Visiting Professor of Film Studies - Department of Visual and Media Arts (2026)

Summary

The Film and Video Production program at Grand Valley State University invites applications for a Visiting Professor of film studies for the 2026-27 academic year, beginning on August 6, 2026. The successful candidate will teach four courses per semester in film studies, related to film history, theory, and/or criticism. The Film & Video Production major, as a discipline within the department of Visual and Media Arts, emphasizes the integration of theory and practice. Required Qualifications and Education

• Master's degree (MA or equivalent) in film studies or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience teaching in higher education.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect and empathy.

Preferred Qualifications and Education

• Ph.D. in film studies or a related field (ABD candidates will be considered)
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching in higher education

Responsibilities

• Teach 12 credits per semester in the Film and Video Production program, related to film history, theory, and/or criticism (normally 4 courses).
• Be available outside of class time to meet with students independently as needed through regularly scheduled office hours.

Salary/Benefits

The salary is $50,000.
