W3 Professorship in Physical Chemistry (f/m/d)

The Faculty of Chemistry invites applications for a permanent professorship with civil servant status (grade W3 NBesO) at the Institute of Physical Chemistry starting on 1 October 2027:

W3 Professorship in Physical Chemistry (f/m/d)

We are looking for a committed and team-oriented colleague with an internationally visible research profile in experimental Physical Chemistry. We expect an excellent track record in the field of molecular dynamics and kinetics at interfaces, in nanoscale systems, or in condensed matter, documented by high-impact publications and successful acquisition of competitive third-party funding. Particular emphasis will be placed on the development and application of advanced spectroscopic, microscopic, or electrochemical methods to unravel fundamental processes.

The professorship is expected to significantly strengthen the Faculty’s research priorities, in particular Sustainable Chemistry, Analytical Methods for Molecular Interactions, and the University’s profile area Energy Conversion. Active participation in existing and planned collaborative research centers such as SFB 1633, ICASEC, and WISCh is expected.

In teaching, the appointee will represent Physical Chemistry in its full breadth at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and doctoral levels and will contribute to the development of innovative teaching formats. A willingness to teach in both German and English and to take on responsibilities in academic self-governance is required. The University of Göttingen is committed to research-oriented teaching.

Appointment requirements are stipulated by Article 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act in the most current version of that law. As a rule, junior professors and other members of the University of Göttingen can only be considered for a professorial appointment if after the completion of the doctoral thesis they have transferred to another university or worked for a minimum of two years in research elsewhere. The University of Göttingen is a Public Law Foundation and thereby entitled to award professorships. Details will be provided upon request.

Applications from abroad are explicitly welcome. The University of Göttingen strives to increase the proportion of women in areas where women are underrepresented and therefore explicitly invites qualified female scholars to apply. The University has committed itself to being a family-friendly institution and supports its employees in balancing work and family life. The University is particularly committed to the professional participation of disabled employees and therefore welcomes applications from persons with disabilities. In the case of equivalent qualifications, applications from disabled persons will be given preference. In order for the University to be able to protect the interests of the applicant, information about a disability or equal status should be included in the application.

Please send your application to the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Göttingen via the Appointment Portal by 31 July 2026.

For further information please contact the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry (dekanat@chemie.uni-goettingen.de).
