The Assistant Professor / Postdoctoral Researcher will work in the Department of Medical Diagnostics at CEZAMAT, Warsaw University of Technology, within the NCN SONATA 19 project on hybrid graphene-carbon nanotube biosensors for multi-biomarker sepsis diagnostics. The researcher will conduct surface chemistry and bioconjugation experiments, functionalize graphene and SWCNTs, immobilize antibodies, antibody fragments and enzymes, and develop biosensors for CRP, PSP and lactate. The role includes electrochemical and electronic measurements, experiments in physiological buffers and serum, data analysis, preparation of scientific publications and conference presentations, and partial supervision of a PhD student.

Skills/Qualifications
- PhD or equivalent in chemistry, biotechnology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, biophysics or a related field.
- Research experience in biosensing, preferably electrochemical and/or field-effect transistor (FET)-based electronic biosensing.
- Experience in wet chemistry and surface modification or functionalization.
- Experience in bioconjugation and biomolecule immobilization, particularly EDC/NHS coupling, maleimide chemistry and/or PEG-based surface chemistry.
- Experience working with proteins, antibodies or antibody fragments and/or enzymes.
- Experience with biological samples or complex matrices such as serum or plasma, including control experiments and interference studies.
- Knowledge of electrochemical methods; experience with FET measurements or other bioelectronic methods will be an advantage.
- Knowledge of carbon nanomaterial surface chemistry, particularly graphene and/or single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), will be an advantage.
- Experience in data analysis and visualization; knowledge of Python, OriginPro or equivalent tools will be an advantage.
- Experience in scientific publishing demonstrated by a track record in biosensing, analytical chemistry, biotechnology, bioengineering or related fields.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team.
- Experience supervising students or junior researchers will be an advantage.
- Excellent written and spoken English, sufficient for independent work with scientific literature, manuscript preparation and presentation of results.
Specific Requirements
- Conduct research within the NCN SONATA 19 project on hybrid graphene-carbon nanotube biosensors for sepsis diagnostics.
- Modify and functionalize carbon nanomaterial surfaces using pyrene chemistry, PEG layers and bioconjugation methods.
- Immobilize bioreceptors, including antibodies or antibody fragments and enzymes, and optimize conditions for preserving their activity.
- Develop and validate affinity FET biosensors and enzymatic amperometric biosensors for CRP, IL-6 and lactate.
- Perform measurements in physiological ionic-strength buffers and serum, including selectivity, interference, limit of quantification, response time, stability and reproducibility studies.
- Analyse, interpret and visualize experimental data, including Python-based automation where appropriate.
- Prepare scientific publications, present results at conferences and contribute to project reporting.
- Partially supervise a PhD student and support junior team members while collaborating with researchers responsible for device fabrication and characterization.
- The position is research-only, full-time and temporary. Planned start date: 1 November 2026; planned employment period: 11 months.

Benefits
Full-time employment contract for 11 months, from 1 November 2026 to 30 September 2027. Annualised total employer cost: PLN 140,000 gross-gross, paid proportionally to the employment period;
Eligibility criteria
PhD or equivalent and the qualifications listed above. The successful candidate must meet the statutory requirements of Warsaw University of Technology and the conditions applicable to employment as a postdoctoral researcher in the NCN SONATA 19 project.
