Continuing Education. Young Artists , (grades 6 - 9), 2-week program. Dive into drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, and more in this hands-on middle school art program. Students will foster creativity, imagination, and individuality while also learning to collaborate with others. With a serious approach to art-making, students will develop core skills in drawing, painting (acrylic, tempera, watercolor), sculpture, and clay. Projects may be inspired by both contemporary practices and works from the Neuberger Museum's renowned collection. Group discussions and one-on-one guidance support each student's unique creative journey. The program culminates in a celebratory art exhibition, where family and friends are invited to view and honor the work created by our young artists. The primary responsibility of the position is to plan for and execute cohesive activities that support the above program description. This is a well-established program with a syllabus that can be used as a resource. The incumbent is also responsible for planning and executing a culminating event to be held on the last day of the program. The instructor is also responsible for the overall safety of the students. Duties include, but are not limited to: creating curriculum, syllabus, and a culminating event, supervising Teacher's Assistants, reviewing supplies on hand and providing a proposed list of any additional supplies.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of/experience with visual arts and teaching experience preferred. An undergraduate degree is required - preferably in visual arts or related field. A Master's degree in education, visual arts, and/or teaching certification are pluses. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience: in teaching visual arts in a K-12 setting and/or camp setting. The successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Additionally, he/she/they must enjoy working with children and have a commitment to the performing arts.
