Moorfields Eye Charity supports a range of specialized educational programs focused on ophthalmology and eye care at the main campus. These initiatives fund clinical training, research fellowships, and professional development courses for healthcare professionals aiming to advance in eye health.

Orthoptic Training Program: A comprehensive two-year course covering the diagnosis and management of eye movement disorders, including strabismus and amblyopia. Participants learn non-surgical interventions, visual assessments, and patient rehabilitation techniques through hands-on clinics and simulations.
Ophthalmology Residency: A four-year residency program emphasizing surgical and medical ophthalmology. Trainees rotate through subspecialties like glaucoma, retina, and cornea, gaining expertise in laser treatments, cataract surgery, and diagnostic imaging such as OCT and fundus photography.
Research Fellowship in Retinal Diseases: Funded by the charity, this one-year fellowship delves into genetic and degenerative eye conditions. Fellows conduct clinical trials on age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, utilizing advanced labs for molecular biology and bioinformatics analysis.
Optometry Postgraduate Diploma: Aimed at optometrists, this program focuses on therapeutic management of ocular diseases. Modules include pharmacology for glaucoma, contact lens fitting for keratoconus, and low vision rehabilitation, with practical sessions in the hospital's outpatient departments.
Pediatric Ophthalmology Course: Specialized training for managing congenital and developmental eye issues in children. Covers topics like retinopathy of prematurity screening, nystagmus evaluation, and family counseling, incorporating multidisciplinary approaches with pediatricians and psychologists.
Advanced Corneal and External Eye Disease Certification: A modular course on surgical techniques for corneal transplants, dry eye syndrome, and infectious keratitis. Includes wet lab sessions for DALK and PK procedures, and lectures on immunology of the ocular surface.

The charity's funding ensures access to cutting-edge facilities, including the Institute of Ophthalmology collaboration for translational research. Programs emphasize evidence-based practice, ethical considerations in eye care, and global health perspectives on preventable blindness. Participants benefit from mentorship by world-renowned experts, contributing to innovations like AI-assisted diagnostics and regenerative therapies for retinal conditions. Over 300 professionals are trained annually, enhancing the UK's eye health workforce and supporting international outreach initiatives. These courses not only build clinical skills but also foster research output, with many graduates publishing in top journals like Ophthalmology and Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science. The curriculum integrates virtual reality simulations for surgical training, ensuring safe, repeatable practice. Community engagement modules address public health education on eye safety and early detection of conditions like glaucoma. Ultimately, these programs align with the charity's mission to eradicate avoidable sight loss through education and innovation.
