CPS Astana Campus (Block 2)
The Nazarbayev University’s Center for Preparatory Studies (CPS) Astana campus, situated in Block 2 of the main university campus, specializes in the one-year Foundation Year Program (NUFYP). This intensive preparatory program equips high-achieving Kazakhstani high school graduates with the academic foundation, advanced English proficiency, mathematical rigor, leadership skills, and study habits essential for success in Nazarbayev University's undergraduate programs or at top international universities worldwide. Founded in 2010 in partnership with University College London, CPS developed its own NUFYP in 2015, with the English for Academic Purposes component receiving full BALEAP accreditation in 2020—the first for any university in the CIS region.
- English for Academic Purposes (FEAP): Multi-level courses focusing on academic reading, writing, listening, speaking, and critical analysis, preparing students for English-medium higher education.
- Foundation Mathematics (FMAT): Progressive modules from basic to advanced topics, including algebra, calculus, and statistics, customized for science, engineering, and humanities tracks.
- Leadership Development Program (FLDP): Interactive sessions on personal development, teamwork, ethics, communication, and global citizenship to foster future leaders.
- Science and Engineering Preparatory Modules: Biology, chemistry, physics, and introductory engineering concepts for students targeting NU's School of Engineering and Digital Sciences or School of Sciences and Humanities.
- Humanities and Social Sciences Foundations: Critical thinking, research methods, and introductory courses in economics, politics, and arts for business or liberal arts pathways.
CPS emphasizes experiential learning through projects, seminars, and advising, ensuring over 90% of graduates progress to NU's competitive schools like Engineering, Sciences, Business, and Medicine. The program cultivates independent learners ready for research-oriented degrees.
