• Dr. Amadou Hampâté Bâ - Historian and ethnologist, known for his work on African oral traditions. Graduated from Université du Sahel in 1950.
• Mariama Bâ - Novelist, famous for her book 'So Long a Letter'. Attended UdS in the 1960s.
• Cheikh Hamidou Kane - Philosopher and writer, author of 'Ambiguous Adventure'. Graduated from Université du Sahel in 1959.
