Weather and Climate at UMT

The climate at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu is typically tropical, characterized by high humidity and temperatures ranging from 24°C to 32°C throughout the year. The region experiences two distinct monsoon seasons:

• Northeast Monsoon (November to March): Heavy rainfall, with monthly precipitation often exceeding 200mm, can impact commuting and outdoor activities on campus.
• Southwest Monsoon (May to September): Generally drier with occasional showers, more conducive to outdoor research and campus life.

Extreme weather conditions like thunderstorms are common, and the university's location near the coast can lead to occasional flooding during heavy rains, affecting campus accessibility.
