Weather and Climate at UoC

The University of Crete experiences a Mediterranean climate, characterized by mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers. The average temperature ranges from 10°C (50°F) in winter to 28°C (82°F) in summer.

• Winter: Temperatures can drop to around 5°C (41°F) at night, with occasional rain.
• Summer: Daytime temperatures often exceed 30°C (86°F), with minimal rainfall.
• Extreme Weather: Heatwaves can occur in summer, and occasional strong winds, known as 'meltemia', can affect the region.
• The weather at UoC generally supports outdoor activities and research, though commuting can be challenging during peak summer heat.
