Weather and Climate at UoL

The University of Lapland, located in Rovaniemi, experiences a subarctic climate. Winter temperatures can drop to -20°C (-4°F), while summers are mild with temperatures around 15-20°C (59-68°F).

• Winter: Heavy snowfall, with up to 80 cm of snow accumulation. This affects commuting and campus life, requiring winter gear for outdoor activities.
• Summer: Short but can be warm, with the midnight sun phenomenon allowing for extended outdoor research.
• Extreme Weather: Occasional blizzards in winter and the northern lights are visible during clear nights.
