Position Summary
Winston-Salem State University’s Research Center of Excellence is a large, grant-funded data collection operation undertaking in-depth research into eviction and other forms of displacement in North Carolina. The Student Research Coordinator will directly manage and support the work of undergraduate research assistants as they collect data on evictions, foreclosures, and other housing issues in North Carolina. This is a time-limited position, offering benefits, and will run through September 2027, with the possibility of a one-year extension.
Responsibilities of the Student Research Coordinator include:
Development and Facilitation of Undergraduate Research Curriculum
- Orient new student researchers to expectations and goals of the grant research
- Develop and facilitate workshops introducing students to the concepts and practices that ground academic research
- Work directly with students to develop goals pertaining to their personal interests in housing research
- Coordinate with faculty and staff doing academic research on campus to provide additional opportunities for students to be introduced to different types of research
Monitoring and Participating in Data Collection
- Work directly with grant principal investigators to ensure undergraduate research activities meet the goals of the Center
- Learn and perform data collection in support of the grant-funded research
- Collect data with students in support of the aims of the research
- Report to grant PI and project director on student progress with data collection
Meeting with Students
- Communicate expectations to students through weekly check-ins
- Report deviations from satisfactory research progress to PI and project director
- Mentorship of undergraduates to ensure support in data collection
- Facilitation of mid-year and end of academic year assessments of student research activities
Coordination of Student Payments and Travel
- Learn requirements for hiring and compensating student researchers
- Coordinate student travel to conferences in accordance with
