Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee has been booked in a fresh case of alleged medical negligence after a woman complained that she lost her leg following treatment at a Sebaashray health camp in West Bengal.
The complaint, lodged by Maloti Biswas, alleges that she visited the camp for knee pain and was prescribed medicines. She claims the treatment led to complications requiring amputation of her leg. Police at the Rabindranagar police station have registered the FIR against Banerjee and others, with investigation underway.
This marks the third FIR filed against the TMC national general secretary in connection with alleged irregularities at the Sebaashray health camps. The camps were launched as a healthcare outreach initiative during the TMC government's tenure in the state.
Opposition parties, including the BJP, have criticised the camps as publicity stunts with dangerous consequences. Banerjee has faced previous complaints related to the same initiative.
West Bengal police confirmed the registration of the FIR based on the woman's complaint. Further details on the investigation are expected as the probe progresses.
The incident has sparked political controversy in the state, highlighting concerns over medical practices at such outreach events.
