About Amal
Dr Amal Hajjaj is a Senior Lecturer in Electromechanical Systems and Dynamics in the School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering at Loughborough University. She joined the university in October 2019 and has since focused on the design, modelling, and characterisation of nonlinear MEMS resonators-based sensors. Her research interests include noise, vibration, and harshness in electric vehicles, as well as multi-sensing miniaturised sensors for environmental and automotive condition monitoring. Dr Hajjaj earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tunisia Polytechnic School, along with a Master of Science in Computational Mechanics from Ecole Polytechnique of Tunisia. She completed her PhD in Mechanical Engineering at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in 2019, where her work examined the linear and nonlinear dynamics of MEMS resonators for sensing and filtering applications. Prior to her current role, she held a PhD scholarship at KAUST from 2014. Dr Hajjaj has received the Best Research Paper Award at the ASME International Design Engineering Technical Conferences in 2017 and has secured grants including an EPSRC Transforming Foundation Industries Network project on multi-gas sensing and a NERC discipline hopping award for smart environmental monitoring. She teaches modules such as Engineering Science 2, Nonlinear Dynamics, and Drive Train Dynamics, and serves as Admissions Tutor for the Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate course. Her expertise contributes to fundamental knowledge in nonlinear dynamics for safe implementation of MEMS-based sensors in various applications.
