About Erik Bernardus

Erik Bernardus Aal serves as Master Lecturer II and Professor of Practice in the Strategic Management Department at the Institute of Management, part of the Rector's Organization at Corvinus University of Budapest. He holds degrees from the State University of Utrecht, including studies in Organisational Psychology, Sociology, and Social Economics completed between 1980 and 1987. Aal is currently a doctoral candidate at Corvinus University of Budapest, with his dissertation titled “Decision Topologies in Functionally Differentiated Societies – the cases of projects and AI” scheduled for public defence on 18 May 2026.

His professional career spans leadership roles in project management and business development, including positions as Project Director at Kraftszer Kft from 2019 to 2021, General Manager at PV-Invest Magyarország Kft since 2016, Head of Group Investment and Group Project Support at MOL Group Zrt from 2014 to 2016, and earlier roles at Ballast Nedam NV, the Hungarian Ministry of Economy and Transport, and Hoogovens Group NV. Aal's research focuses on strategic management, project governance, decision-making, and multidisciplinary social sciences, with publications including “The significance of Luhmann's theory of organisations for project governance” in 2022, “The world according to the project,” and “‘The end user takes the final decision’: AI and decision-communication in organisations.” He serves as Associate Editor for an international journal since 2025 and is a member of the European Association for Supervision and Coaching. Aal is fluent in Hungarian, English, Dutch, and German.
